African Village Dream is a non profit charity built on just that; a dream.
A dream for a remote Gambian village, Kerr Layen, to educate its own children, grow its own food, and thrive independently.
With 36 hectares of land for rice, mango, and couscous, the village is on its way to self-sustainability.
A hand-built well brings running water for the first time, goats help pay teachers’ wages, and chickens provide fresh eggs.
We’re also supporting new small businesses - from a tailor and a baker to a market garden and farmers.
The school currently has 158 children enrolled, providing two meals a day working from 3 classrooms.
We have started building an additional two as the numbers grow.
Official charity status arrived in July 2025, and together, we’re turning a dream into reality.

From a conversation with our
founder Lee and Mr Samba, we have progressed into a team of like-minded individuals working diligently to fundraise, liaise, and support the community of Kerr Layen.
Villagers First.
Our sole focus is on the Villagers of Kerr Layen.
Without taking salaries or incurring large costs, all donations are channeled towards supporting projects, missions, and endeavors for the benefit of Kerr Layen.

Each endeavour is
dedicated to supporting the growth
and well-being of the children,
teenagers and adults of Kerr Layen.
Even in our absence. Essential life skills that can be imparted to future generations.

Our Founder & Trustees
The African Village Dream charity is guided by three passionate trustees - Lee (Founder), Claire, and Emma - who are deeply committed to the children and families of Kerr Layen.
The principal Mr Samba serves as our key link to Kerr Layen and dedicates himself wholeheartedly to the work we do together.
With love and dedication, they work to find sponsors who will walk alongside each child, offering not just support, but a sense of hope and belonging.
Together, they are helping to strengthen the entire village, investing in education, well-being, and a brighter future for the next generation.
