Kerr Layen News & updates

January 2026

January Trip

At the beginning of January, a group of 11 visitors travelled to Kerr Layen in The Gambia to experience village life and see firsthand the achievements of the charity’s work within the community.

The visitors received a very warm welcome from the villagers, with celebrations taking place throughout their stay. During the visit, the group witnessed the digging of trenches for the new water pipeline project and spent time actively involved in activities at the school.

New eco-friendly cooking stoves were delivered for the school dinner ladies, helping to improve cooking conditions and reduce fuel use. Claire also had the opportunity to observe the Hold a Hand programme in action and register new students for support.

The visit gave the group a deeper understanding of life in the village, inspired new ideas for future projects, and strengthened the partnership between the charity and the local community.

Thank you to St Peters Catholic Primary School

A huge Thank you to St Peters Catholic Primary School in Hinckley, Leicestershire who chose African Village Dream as their charity to raise funds for during their ‘Bubble Run’.

A wonderful amount of £247 has been raised and we are so very grateful.

Please do consider us if you are wanting to raise funds for a charity - there’s lots of projects going on and we love that our supporters can choose what they would like their raised donations to go towards.

The children of St Peters donation will be going towards our PIPELINE LIFELINE project - getting running water to our school.

electricity

Electricity wires are being set up!

With hopes for the school and the KLub to have electricity so we can build an administration team in the village.

This will change everything when it comes to the Hold A Hand sponsorship program!

We’ll have someone on hand to liaise with Claire, things will be quicker and we can work hand in hand together on a daily basis.

This is soooo exciting.
